Max's World: A Collection of Short Stories - Paperback

by Mariah Clark Skewes (Author), Mariah Clark Skewes (Illustrator)

Meet Max. He's smart, he's curious, he's seven years old, and he's easily distracted. Paying attention in school is a challenge - it's just not all that interesting. While he certainly tries to concentrate on what the teacher is saying, he finds himself counting things instead - especially letters in words. Max loves to find the middle letter in unusual words. And he loves to read chapter books. And he loves to learn new things. He especially loves visiting his Grandma Hannah and Grandpa Mac at their vineyard in the country. Through interactions with his extended family, the country life and the creatures he meets there, Max learns valuable lessons about himself, the importance and value of differences in people, and how to navigate the complexities of life.

Max's World is a collection of short stories with continuity, creating an engaging chapter book with unique characters - Max, his Grandpa Mac and Grandma Hannah, Squirrel the Feral Cat, Speedbump the Pond Turtle, and Chilidog. The stories follow Max through his elementary years as he learns valuable life lessons and comes to accept his own uniqueness. A Glossary is included as well as a culminating Activity to engage young readers in discovering what makes them and those around them special. Intended for children ages 7 - 12 in grades 2 - 6.
