What sets it apart is its apparatus. Farman indexed every person named in the book and every dog named in it, separately, alongside a general index and a chapter on the illustrations - which is why it remains a working reference for anyone tracing a Bulldog pedigree back into the nineteenth century.

It was written in the decades when Britain's Bulldog Club, founded in 1875, was consolidating the modern standard and steering the breed away from its baiting past.

This edition features:

The great 1899 monograph on the breed - history, points, breeding and kennels

Separate indices of every person and every dog named in the volume

A dedicated chapter on the illustrations, with the plates reproduced

A primary reference for nineteenth-century pedigree research

Number of Pages: 300

Dimensions: 0.81 x 8.5 x 5.5 IN

Publication Date: April 13, 2010
